HARARE: The Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe has once again trained 23 Radiation Safety Officers from across the country’s industry in an effort to reduce radiological accidents and incidents, the regulatory body’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Reward Severa has said.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Authority’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Mr Brian Mutangandebvu at a local hotel recently, Mr Severa said the training of RSOs is mandatory under the Act.
“The law makes it mandatory for every user of radiation to designate an official Radiation Safety Officer whose duties are clearly outlined in Section 16 of the Radiation Protection Act [Chapter 15:15],” said Mr Severa.
Mr Severa urged participants to continue seeking knowledge on the subject of radiation protection as the one week training period was not enough to cover everything.
At the end of the training course, the best student was awarded an RPAZ Trophy and it was Ms Concilia Njaya of Unilever P/L.
